We fight to improve health and access to healthcare for undocumented immigrants, their families, their communities, and beyond
We believe that all people have a right to health. In the United States, undocumented immigrants’ right to health is constantly under attack. Salud Sin Papeles works to strengthen the undocumented community and fight for policies that respect undocumented immigrants right to health. Some areas of work we are focusing on now include:
– Collecting undocumented immigrants’ stories about their health experiences to learn more about the issues people in our community face.
– Organizing story sharing workshops where undocumented immigrants and others can share stories about how the immigration system has affected their own health or the health of other members of their community.
– Providing a space where undocumented immigrants can take leadership and make their voices heard in debates about health policy.
– Advocating for the full inclusion of undocumented immigrants in the medical system including expanding eligibility for Medicaid and Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies to include all undocumented immigrants.
Salud Sin Papeles y Sin Miedo: The Right to Privacy
Sometimes undocumented immigrants are afraid to seek medical care or apply for financial assistance at hospitals or clinics because they are afraid their personal information will be shared with immigration officials or the police. All patients seeking care have a right to privacy. Hospitals or clinics are not allowed to share your information with the police or with immigration. If they do, they can be sued. Nobody should be afraid to seek care or financial assistance because they are undocumented
